As of the first half of 2023, there were 435 gypsum board factories in 72 countries worldwide, with a global annual production capacity of 14.3 billion square meters. By country, the United States and China are the world's largest gypsum board producers, with the US accounting for 25% and China 22% of global production capacity.

The global gypsum board market is characterized by a three-way competition, with the top three giants being Knauf (Germany), BNBM (China), and Saint-Gobain (France). As of the first half of 2023, these three companies accounted for 61% of global production capacity.

In the Chinese market, Taishan Gypsum Co., Ltd. is the world's largest gypsum board manufacturer, ranking first in global production and sales volume for many consecutive years, with a domestic market share of 53%. The company has 56 production bases across China.

Major gypsum board brands in the Chinese market include Taishan Gypsum, Longpai, Knauf, Saint-Gobain, Jason, Mengpai, and Bayer Building Materials.

Chinese gypsum board companies are accelerating their overseas expansion. For example, Beijing New Building Materials Group (BNBM) is advancing gypsum board projects in Thailand and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and powder gypsum board projects in Tanzania and Uzbekistan. In the future, they will focus on regional markets such as Southeast Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean region, and Europe.

From a regional market perspective, Africa and Central Asia, driven by demand from modern residential and commercial real estate construction, are potential markets with the fastest growth in gypsum board demand.
